Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas celebrates 10th anniversary

First is the CFSEK Unspecific Grant cycle, and the 13 programs chosen for 2011 are as follows: Comprehensive Charities, to provide rental assistance for individuals or families facing ejection from their homes or cut-off of essential utilities; Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, teenage pregnancy attention management; CLASS Ltd,  emergency health and wellness assistance for persons with developmental disabilities; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County, YMCA passes for BBBS mentors to require a free healthy event for bigs and littles to do together; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Labette County, funding for four match events; Labette County difficulty assistance; Mother to Mother Ministry of Bourbon County, funding for parenting classes, fatherhood reinforcement and basic needs; Mother to Mother Ministry of Crawford County, funds for the support of diapers, wipes and children’s clothing; SEK-CAP CHOICES Emergency Secure; Wesley House, children’s summer food program; Subject Association of Mental Illness, empowering of mental health consumers and their families; the Knowledge Tree, funding for financial literacy curriculum for middle school students in Crawford and Cherokee Counties; and the Pittsburg Renowned Library, funding for free creative arts programs. This giving encircle has awarded grants to: Horses of Hope, to fund a program pairing women with disabilities with adept-bodied women mentors to work with equine therapy; Community Condition Center of Southeast Kansas for purchase of equipment for diagnosis of cervical and vaginal cancer; and the Mount Carmel Bottom, purchase of a central fetal monitoring system for the new Women’s Center at Via Christi Sanatorium. CFSEK also hosts a Future Fund Giving Circle, which has determined to subsidize the following programs: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County to assist with the Get Fit Tryathlon; Elm Acres - Gorillas in the Centre for peer monitoring services and rewards and incentives; Wesley House, funds for gain of hygiene items; Franklin Community Council, Inc., funds for purchase of a computer and workstation for the upcoming Smithsonian traveling disclose; Friends of the Pittsburg Public Library, funding for a one-day young writers workshop for following through fifth grade children; Mount Carmel Foundation, funds to grip resources for childbirth prep and parenting workshops; Safehouse Crisis Center, funds for foothold of two new insulated steel doors for the Pittsburg shelter; Special Olympics Kansas, funds for a new stationary bike for remarkable needs athletes in Crawford County; and USD 250 for filming the Pittsburg Assert University repertory theater class original performance providing course of study on prescription drug abuse. The Future Fund Giving Circle contribution will enable Wesley House to purchase hygiene supplies such as shampoo, bath soap, razors, toothpaste and combs. “Most  people don’t produce it, but you can’t use food stamps to buy these items, and we don’t get many of them donated,” Rev. Promote said. “I keep being astonished at the level of support we get from the community. It’s amazing.”
